A day with Chiang Mai’s Homeless: Thailand

COVID is far from dead in Thailand. While riding around Chiang Mai’s iconic mote, a visible increase in the less fortunate can be seen occupying the many benches, parks and sidewalks. Storefronts reading ‘For Sale’ and ‘For Rent’ have become backdrops for makeshift beds made from vacant restaurant tables. While the scene is certainly far from apocalyptic, it is a far cry from the tourist destination it used to be. On July 25th, Citylife spent a day talking to the local Chiang Mai homeless community to get a better understanding of these humans without homes.
